If you are going to compare weapon systems, then stick with weapon systems without dragging the ships into it, since each ship has their own, and different bonuses, which change the parameters for how you can compare the weapon systems.

Sticking Tach II's on an Apoc gives you vastly different numbers than using them on an Abaddon.

As far as car comparisons go, you want to compare the engines of the cars, not the cars themselves with the engines in them, since that would imply a whole plethora of new parameters such as grip on tyres, aerodynamic shape of the car etc etc.

Compare the weapons on a weapon vs weapon basis, and leave the cars out of it. And the ships too.

Everytime there is a weapon system discussion people muddle it by starting to compare the ships, which then causes the whole thing to deteriorate into a "my mega is teh suck vs a pulse abaddon"

Last I checked, people fit these weapons onto these things called ships - so comparing weapons in a vacuum is useless. That said, the Thron has a damage and tracking bonus, the geddon has a rof bonus. That would skew the results even more in favor of lasers.
